Many of us have thought about buying a kayak and getting out on the water. Being on the water sounds great but where do I start. Where should I go. Kayaking although fun can be a little tricky and dangerous if you take your first trip down a fast river or a busy lake. A kayak is not an easy purchase since there are so many types of them out there. The first thing you need to decide is if you want to just cruise around and get a little exercise or go out and do some fishing. There are plenty of kayaks out there that are rigged with extra options that a lot of people use for going out and doing some fishing. After deciding what kind of kayaking you want to do now it is time to decide where to go for the first few times to get used to using your new kayak.
There are some smaller lakes that are restricted to non motorized boats and are a great place to get out to and learn how to kayak and also if you decided to fish it is great learning how to balance while catching a fish. There are also small lakes around most areas that allow motorized boats that is not a bad place to learn but those motorized boats put out some waves that can be a little tricky to maneuver depending on their size. If you have decided or your only option is to go down a river then a little more work is going to be needed and if you can try to pick a river that is slow moving so that you get a chance to learn how to kayak and use your paddles. You will also need to figure out where to put in your kayak to the river and where to get out and making sure you have an extra vehicle to either drop you off or pic you up at the end of your ride.
Well I hope this gives a couple of ideas of where to start kayaking , I will talk more about types of kayaks in a later blog to help give ideas on which one is a good size for the money. Happy kayaking.
